What is a humble person?

What is humble?

I think people can mistake humble as not being confident or someone who is very self-depreciating.

Humble to me is someone who takes nothing for granted.

A humble person will prepare properly and take every opponent and opportunity seriously. It is someone who will prepare exactly the same way in terms of their attitude and work ethic that he/she will bring to the table, who focuses on what he/she needs to do to perform well.

It is someone who will show respect by beating a lesser opponent as easily as possible rather than go easy on them because he/she can.

I would rather watch someone trying to set their own standards rather than someone just happy to be a little better than others, no matter how low that bar is set.

Humble is not saying, maybe I’m not as good as you think I am. Humble is about working hard, taking nothing for granted - not feeling entitled to anything. It is more about knowing exactly what you are good at and striving to keep getting better at your job.

It is an attitude that as much as humanly possible, brings your best to the table every single day, to test how well you are doing.

If that results in an easy win or a tough loss, the process of always working to improve must remain the target. Humble people will rarely slack off and expect to win. They are people who want to earn results.

Never take it for granted that you’re just somehow going to play well, or somehow people are just going to lose to you, because you are doing well. If they do they do - that is their issue. Your job is to keep striving forward.

By playing as hard as you can you actually teach others what they need to learn if you can beat them easily. This is true respect.
